7 Tips to Go From Mediocrity to Magnificent

Here are a few thoughts on going from Mediocrity to Magnificent.

1) Begins With a Significant Emotional Experience

Jim Rohn called it the day that turns your life around! Btw, I will be quoting a lot of Jim Rohn (my 18 year biz partner) in this. It usually is birthed in pain or being fed up and you decide today is the day I will make the changes necessary.

13418993_1031378973583049_1165175694360865574_nWhen you make the decision that mediocrity is no longer an option in a particular area of your life, that is when things get set into motion and changes start to happen. On our radio show, Doug Firebaugh points out that his mentor Dr. Criswell would say “Mediocrity will always be there until it is not acceptable in your life. Once you have made that decision, life will create a CLEAR PATH for you. You can tolerate or elevate. Both cannot live in the same space.”

 I love…Once you decide, life will create a clear path for you! So true!

2) You Have to Move Past What Other People Think

Living our life based on how people will judge us is one of the biggest pitfalls that keeps us from finding and embracing who we are and the greatness we have inside of us. Equal to worrying about what other people think, is doing things for peoples acceptance or approval. To embrace your greatness you have to let go of outside opinions and get clear on what you want and why you want it. Otherwise you will find yourself compromising and playing small.

3) Desiring Comfort and Leisure vs Paying the Price

So much of the marketing copy out there on being an entrepreneur talks about retiring and having the easy, good life. You will never hear that from me. First, its not true. Being an entrepreneur, small business owner or a leader on any level is ultimately about serving, growing and being your best.

We’ve been sold a lie about retirement and ease. Yes, you want to create a GREAT life and lifestyle for yourself and family and Inner Circle. It’s also about freedom to make your own choices. But its not about easy or comfortable or leisure.

Look at pro athletes or olympians or anyone playing at a high level and you will see dedication to hard, hard work – not leisure.

Jim Rohn said it’s all about your philosophy. And if you are looking for easy or leisure you will never achieve greatness. You will see every challenge as a problem verses as an opportunity to grow and get better.

4) Learning vs Entertainment

To excel in anything in life you have to be on a learning curve. As Jim would paraphrase the bible, If you search you will find, but rarely does a good idea interrupt you. You have to be proactive to find good ideas. One of the best ways to take your life to the next level in any area is to replace the tv, the news, drive time radio and time spent with the wrong people… with learning! Say YES to books, seminars and people who are playing all out in life.

5) Letting Go of Your Excuses

To take your life to the next level you have to be willing to let go of your disempowering story that is filled with excuses Your parents, your spouse, your boss, your body, your friends, the government etc etc etc.. The difference between you reading a book a month (or week) OR not, is YOU! Or eating a doughnut or an apple (as Jim Rohn would say) is YOU!

We all have our legitimate excuses and they are very real. But the reality is only you can decide if you are willing to overcome them or not. Two siblings, same alcoholic parent (or whatever the circumstance are), and one says I will not ever go down that path and the other follows in the same footsteps. The power of choice. At the end of the day, we have our list and we have to decide what we want more. Our limitations (excuses) or the results.

6) Wanting the Result More Than the Short Term Pleasure

Jim Rohn called it reasons! When your reasons or your why is clear it is so much easier to pay the price. Reasons can be financial/material (house, boat, car, seasons tickets, vacations, etc), they can be family (kids education, quality of life, safety), they can be philanthropic (helping others, giving) and maybe the most important reason – what you become!! Become a millionaire for what it will make of you. Having powerful reasons can be some of the best anchors to making real changes in your habits and life.

7) A Seat at The Table

One of the most powerful reasons for me all these years has been to be my best so I could have a seat at the table. Become a top event promotor so I could promote Jim Rohn, Og Mandino, Brian Tracy etc. Build the 1 million plus email list so I could market all the people’s programs that changed my life. Get massive results so I could spend more time with Jim Rohn, Darren Hardy, Denis Waitley, etc.

Go for greatness and for the doors it will open and the relationships it will help forge.

Many of you know I do Inner Circle masterminds and just the past year alone we had special guests like Mark Victor Hansen and Phil Collen pop in and spend the day with us. Or even having Darren Hardy, Brian Tracy and Vic Johnson spend special time with my Inner Circle members at our recent Brian Tracy 3 Day Event that I put on. That type of influence, that I can then share with my kids and Inner Circle and Lessons From Members drives me out of my comfort zone almost daily. I want these powerhouse influences to answer my call and say yes when I make a request. So that is one of the reasons that has driven me for 20 plus years to get up early, stay up late, cut the tv off and read the books, etc.

You have to find your reasons that impact you the most. We all are different.

And realize often it is 3 steps forward and 2 back and sometimes even 2 forward and 5 back. Life happens. The key is just don’t quit. Keep your eye on the prize of being your best self, having influence and making a difference.

And remember when it scares you, makes your nervous, that is almost always the time to step out of your comfort zone and embrace the challenge! This is when your inner superhero comes out. The best you gets a chance to show up. I believe that!

Welcome to the Brian Tracy 3 Day Weekend Event Recap Notes Part 1!

This powerful 3 day event was extra special for me, not for the least of reasons, it was the 20 year anniversary of the Success Mastery Academy. A 2 day event Brian Tracy and I co-created in 1996 and did all over the country.

13266131_1021980874522859_3715467469337171240_nAlso I was able to invite some really special long time friends including Darren Hardy, Ron White, Vic Johnson to speak and be a part of the event, along with many amazing Lessons From Network Contributors and Kyle Wilson Inner Circle Members, who are world class in their industries (sports, music, entertainment, marketing, writing, leadership, etc) to share their ideas and stories.

Having almost every speaker stick around for the entire 3 days and connect with all the attendees was extremely rare indeed.

I’m going to break this recap into 3 parts (and maybe more as I keep receiving Golden nuggets from so many attendees). In fact, the response in the post event comments were some of the best I’ve ever received from any event that I’ve promoted, including so many powerful Jim Rohn 2 and 3 day events I put on over the years.

In addition to the highlights from all of our speakers, I will also include some insights from the event promotion side. There is a lot that goes into putting on and marketing an event like this. So I hope to share some things you will find to be of value.

By the way, the majority of ideas are coming directly from attendees sharing their insights with me in our private event Facebook Group as well as a discussion at my recent Inner Circle meetings (the majority of which attended the event).

Here we go. Again, just a small sampling of key ideas shared over the 3 days by Brian Tracy, Darren Hardy and more.

Brian Tracy

– Write down your top 10 goals EVERY NIGHT! This act alone will help your subconscience mind look for solutions and attract the desired goals. Rewriting is a discipline that pays major dividends.

– When you wake up each morning ask, “What is my greatest challenge?”… then turn that into an Empowering Question. If it is.. “I need to recruit more people”… change it to … “How do I recruit more people?”… “I need better associations”…change to …”How do I get around better associations”?

– When you ask a question related to solving a challenge… write down 20 potential solutions. The first 5 or 10 are probably obvious to you. But it is the last 10 and especially the last 3-5 that force you to think outside the box and get creative. Often times that is where many of our best ideas come from.

– The future belongs to the askers. You need to ask, if you want to receive and achieve in life. Ask politely, ask curiously and ask repeatedly.

– Failure requires no effort, if you don’t decide to be excellent, by default you become mediocre.

– Zero based thinking: ask yourself this powerful question. “If I knew then what I know now would I still do it?” Knowing what I now know .. would you still do it is a powerful question. And then based on the answer, take action.

– Ingrain in your kids your belief that they are good and full of amazing potential and they will impact the world in a great way! Tell your kids “You’re the best!” “You’re going to be the best success ever!!” “You are amazing!” “You are doing amazing things!”

– By studying up to 2 hours per day, 5 days a week you can be a master of any skill!

Darren Hardy

– Of all of the 50 things that a realtor (for example) needs to do, pick the top 3 that you need to do on a regular and consistent basis and focus the majority of your time on that.

– What is your give up list? Most people keep adding to their list instead of thinning it down.

– Focus for 90 minute chunks of undivided time on the One Thing to get more accomplished. Turn off all alerts and shut off the phone during this time.

– Since age 21 Darren has taken 10% of his income and invested it in his own self-development.

– 90% of the people feel on some level they are a fraud. They fear being found out. We all struggle with this. It is what keeps so many from truly stepping up and sharing their message with the world.

– Assume your throne! It is time to claim what you have accomplished and tell your story. No more downplaying or hiding from your successes.

– If you want to have celebrity authority you must BUILD AN AUDIENCE! Ultimately its about traffic, prospects, customers and then fans.

– Having a book is one of the best ways to leverage your story, brand and celebrity authority.

Once you have attracted them, next you have to persuade them, that out of all the choices in the marketplace, yours is the best choice. So, selling is converting interested prospects into buying customers and a business will succeed or fail on that basis.

The natural tendency for human beings is to get in a comfort zone and to do things the way they have always done it. Then they fight and resist any change or suggestion to get out of the comfort zone.

The future belongs to the well informed, the future belongs to the knowledgeable, the future belongs to the readers, the future belongs to the people who are continually upgrading their knowledge and skills.

Children are like roses that need rain. Children need an unbroken flow of unconditional love throughout their formative years.

What is it that you are actually offering to customers to get them to buy from you and buy from you again? According to Forbes 80% of business failure is because customers don’t want the product.

The number one reason for business problems is low sales, the number one reason for business success is high sales, everything else is just commentary.

In business, 100 percent of your focus has to be outward and toward the person you want to serve, the customer. You have to figure out what he or she wants, what is it that they need or consider valuable? You have to offer them a unique propositions, something distinct, that offers them something they cannot get anywhere else and they want it.

Each person is extraordinarily influenced by expectations. Your expectations determine how you see the world. My law of expectations says that whatever you expect with confidence, becomes your self-fulling prophecy. If you expect to be successful, if you expect to be liked, if expect to find a solutions and you are confident in that, it is almost like the waves part and you move like a great boat through the water to your solutions.

You have to differentiate, you have to be superior to your competitors who are offering anything similar, to the same customer in the same type of product or service.

All successful companies have a product that people care about, because it makes a difference in their lives and it is superior to any competitor trying to fill that same market gap.

Marketing and Sales is the heartbeat, it is the jelly in the jelly donut, it the 80 percent in the 80/20 rule. Dan Kennedy says “whatever business you are in, you are in the marketing business, the product will change, the customer will change, the prices will change, but you are in the marketing business.”

There are two factors that will more determine how a child turns out than any other two factors. Number one is a democratic environment, where a child opinions is solicited, respected and listened to by the parents from an early age. The child grows up believing their opinion is important and by that they are important.

The second factor was growing up in a climate of positive expectations, where the parents always believed the best of the child, always expected the best, always told them that they were going to well and even better, told them they were going to be a big success when they grow up.

Do not do business with negative people.

The most successful business’s get a steady stream of referrals.

The Power of Immersion

Have you ever hung out with people who just seem to be ‘smarter’ or more on top of what’s going on in a particular topic or field than you?

A friend of mine recently spent the afternoon with online internet ‘celebrity’ Tai Lopez at Tai’s house. Tai had invited him to do some special training with him.

It peaked my curiosity so I started following Tai on social media. I know he quotes my mentor and 18 year biz partner, Jim Rohn a lot, especially in the area of lifestyle.

Tai seemed to go between being entertaining, self-indulgent, pontificating to then giving a golden nugget. In fact, every time I was about to exit there would come a Golden Nugget.

A recent one was about Immersion. And I know the truth on this one.

It’s similar to the 212 degree rule. It’s the philosophical mistake of giving yourself (time, money and energy) to something, but never enough to reach that tipping point of where the manifestation of change happens. In this case, 212 is where water reaches the boiling point vs just being hot.

When I think of Tai or my friend that spent the afternoon with him or even close friends like Darren Hardy and of course the late Jim Rohn, they all have given themselves to Immersion in being their best!

They READ! They are constant learners! They attend live events where they can get fully Immersed in a subject for a full day or more.

In my Dallas and LA Inner Circle Groups, we will typically spend a full day (6 times a year) together because I found a full day creates a totally different experience than a half day. And guess what, after a full day, no one every seems to want to leave. Although the set time is 9-5 so often people stay till 9 or 10 still connecting and networking. It’s called Full Immersion!

That’s where the miracles happen.

One recurring comment I hear is that I have a large network of connections. And I have to confess it is not necessarily by design or something I work on, it’s simply because I’ve promoted so many big 1, 2 and 3 day events over the years with Jim Rohn, Brian Tracy, Mark Victor Hansen and others. And from these events I have  made many key connections, in part from the full day immersions and experience we have together. There was nothing like a 3 Day Jim Rohn event to create bonds, memories and long term transformation.

I’m fortunate to have what I believe is the event of the year coming up.
