Your Enemies = Your Teachers

Reframe the StoriesYour enemies = Your teachers

We’ve all talked about how our failures, conflicts, challenges or obstacles are the very things that can either break us or make us. One of my good friends and New York Times best-selling author, Karen Salmansohn, so eloquently put it this way:

  • Your enemies = your teachers.
  • Your failure = your wisdom.
  • Your mistakes = your lucky discoveries.
  • Your conflicts = your growth opportunities.
  • Your undesired endings = your desirable beginnings.
  • Your grapes of wrath = your raisons d’etre.
  • Your painful feelings = your proud proof that you are dealing with your feelings… head-on!

What a brilliant, wonderful way to look at our failures, obstacles and challenges. Karen calls it re-framing the stories of your life. In other words, it’s looking at the tough stuff we go through in our lives in a positive, empowering way that moves us forward instead of shutting us down.

It’s when you use the very stones, boulders and things blocking your pathway as stepping-stones to climb over and move up the mountain that you truly turn challenges into opportunities.

Challenges – whether people, circumstances or mistakes – all are great learning opportunities. In fact, they can actually help us discover weaknesses that may be keeping us from succeeding.

So again, thank you, Karen, for your wisdom and thought-provoking advice on positive ways of looking at failures and obstacles.
